One thing I will say is that this Spring/Summer collection for Fashion Week has been maximizing not only simple elements like color and pattern, but also narrative and storytelling. I’m seeing more diversity in the models, designers pushing the envelope with set design, and stronger connections between the clothing, the environment, and the places where these shows take place.
How are you really going to set the stage? Is it going to be more silhouette-driven and minimal, or are you going to incorporate lights, glass, painted flooring, and other elements that completely transform the environment? Are you going to create a truly minimalistic show, and if so, how does that minimalism pair with something like the Ferragamo Hug bag, where we’re seeing all these different iterations throughout the show?
I think this is one of the areas where the fashion industry sometimes misses the opportunity. We’ve become so saturated with trying to compete with one another—and with the fear that everyone is going to take what you create, replace certain elements, and turn it into fast fashion.
Because of that, I think a lot of these shows are beginning to ask a more important question: What narrative hasn’t been spoken to yet?
How can a collection tell a story that feels new while still being wearable? And how can designers improve upon the previous collection rather than simply repeating what already worked? For me, that combination of narrative, environment, diversity, wearability, and continuous evolution is what makes these collections feel more impactful.
