Founded in Tokyo, Japan, Sacai was created by Chitose Abe. The name came from her maiden name, with the “K” changed to a “C” to create Sacai.

After leaving her hectic job as a pattern cutter at Comme des Garçons to have her daughter, Abe began searching for a way to reclaim her identity. This eventually became the foundation for Sacai and its distinctive approach to fashion.
