Don’t accept the bare minimum. Be the loudest in the room through the personality of your clothing. In the Western fashion world that I live in, it’s uncommon to see so many bold colors and prints, which makes it even more beautiful to see how they are embraced and celebrated in other countries.
That became the centerpiece of how I wanted to style this look. Centering it around the South African jersey was my way of expressing that the shirt represents heritage, which is deeply connected to its people and a collective identity. It embodies maximalism through bold prints and expressive design.
The specific inspiration I referenced is Thebe Magugu. The use of typography echoes the rhythm and movement often found in traditional African prints. The pattern is also reminiscent of the “Adinkra” symbols, reflecting their rich visual language and cultural significance.
